After you install, just move all the KMA files folder over to the desktop. Then you let Hoster know where the files are and rebuild the database.

On a side note, I think MTU needs to up the minimum requirements for the video to 128mb. And manufacturers need to quit misleading people in to thinking they have more than they actually do.

I am on my desktop while the laptop is sitting here running and it just dawned on me to see what I have in my desktop.....duh.... I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with 128mg on this desktop. I am running Windows XP Pro Ver. 2002 SP3, AMD Athlon XP2000+ 167GHz with 1GB of ram. Should that run 4.06 without ant problems? I can always install my second copy on the decktop and see...but how do I move my KMA files so I have some music/songs to try ???? <STYLE></STYLE>

As long as you have a home network set up it is easy to just copy your KMA files from one computer to another by sharing the folder where they are. Then as Mark said rebuild the database on the desktop one so it knows where and what you have.
Mark you are absolutely right about upping to 128MB minimum on the video card. I see a lot of people now having problems with laptops because the mfg skimp on the video memory.

Well 4.06 works on my desktop with the NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with 128mb. Now I only imported one cd for test purposes...
The spec sheet when I ordered my laptop shows a 128mb ATi Radeon X1300 HyperMemory card.. The laptop reports 256mb when you pull it up. I guess it may just be on the edge of having enough memory...beats me ...What do you think? Is it time to spend some money??

It's that whole "Hypermemory" thing. It really only has 64mb. It "theoretically" dynamically changes as your need changes. The only problem is, it uses much slower system ram to make up the difference. I still think it might be worth a shot to upgrade the amount of system ram. It would be a lot cheaper. Try to get to 2gb of system ram. A 2 gb kit from crucial would run less than $50. Shop around though, it might be cheaper on NewEgg or Tiger. Go to Dell's site and look up your model # to see the specs of the ram and what the max is, then shop around.

If the memory can't be upgraded to at least 512mb (1GB would be better but don't think it is possible) then yes it may be time to spend some money. The problem is with the shared memory. It really just doesn't work that well with video.
This is the reason I have stayed away from laptops. They are under powered, get too hot and never have enough memory with no way to increase it. Instead I prefer a shuttle type desktop that offers me the ability to upgrade or replace any part without costing me for a whole new unit.
Are you disabling the wireless network connection when you run Hoster? Also if you have an anti-virus program and or a Spyware program running be sure to disable them.

Glen Turner November 12th, 2008 11:55 PM

I'm still sitting here messing with the darn thing and I should have known that the "Experts" you are - are correct. Not enough memory on video. When I drag the box over to the monitor it really shows up there. In other words it's doing it (lagging) even when there is no monitor connected, it just hard to see. It is a crime the way they say it's "XYZmb" card when it's not.

My laptop shows it as 256mg Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by ATI Graphics Chipset ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 Bus Type PCI Express BIOS Date 2006/03/29 Memory Size 256 MB Memory Type HyperMemory
Core Clock in MHz 209 MHz Memory Clock in MHz 252 MHz

At least I know now what I have to do....I don't see any way around getting a new Video Card.....Do you?

Thanks for all the help and I'll be looking around the threads while I'm waiting to upgrade. This really can be fun.....Thanks again my friends...:g

Oh yeah, I did disable wireless, spyware and anything else that could be running. My son (the software engineer) and I went thru it via remote access and he came to the same conclusion...Video was problem.....Maybe I'll hear from my other rocket scientist from Dell tomorrow...Thanks again..I'm still open for any other suggestions.....:g

That's weird cause the x1300 has always been considered a decent card,

Suggestions you shall have then:g

I did a little research for you. The x1300 goes in a slot on the motherboard. The only upgrade card for this model is the x1400. It has 128mb actual memory on it. It is possible to upgrade that card. I also checked my old favorite, Ebay, and these sell for about $60 used. Taking apart a notebook is not a project for the feint of heart, but can be done. It is handy to have a camera ready to take pictures along the way to remind you what it used to look like:) This is a link to a Dell article on replacing this card

I have only disassembled 2 notebooks before. It was not as bad as I first thought. Just take your time and move slowly. They have very odd connectors and short short short cables. Look at all sides of the piece you are removing to see if it is connected to anything not immediately apparent. I figure it's worth a shot. Better than throwing out an otherwise useable notebook.

Glen, you never did say. Are you running Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11)?

Glen Turner November 13th, 2008 09:58 AM

I'm sorry laddie I forgot to get back to you......YES I am and I can't find wmp9 anywhere....It didn't show up available still for XP Pro........suggestions????? You think that might solve my issues???? I guess I could always delete wmp11, see if that helped and go get again if I needed to..heck, I've tried just about everything else...I'm close but not there yet...

Glen Turner November 13th, 2008 10:06 AM

thanks for the suggestions marklwood....I'll try anything once. I am use to working on desktops since 1992 (back when 286's came out with cd caddies and all). I know laptops will be different but if someone put it together, I can take it apart (just hope I can put it back together :) ) . I'll check out the link and see what's involved. Thanks again....

Just go to the control panel and remove windows media player 11, it will roll back to window media player 9, or the last version you loaded before 11.

:)Hey Glen, I may be off base but I have not seen this suggestion. Right cick on your desktop and select Properties. Then advanced, then Troubleshoot. Try adjusting your hardware acceleration. Since this is a problem with graphics I think this may help. Hope so anyhoo. :c

Glen Turner November 13th, 2008 03:42 PM

Nope, hadn't tried that....I know when I first went to 4.xx prior to 4.06,, I didn't have a problem..Just showed up in 4.06....It's crazy...Not giving up yet......the graphics come up fine...music starts but when it's time to sing the "highlighted" word that you should be singing it is about 3-4 words behind the music. That's what I have been calling the "lyrics lagging"...hope that's right....Keep the suggestions and Ideas coming please.......

Glen Turner November 13th, 2008 04:20 PM

It won't let me remove wmp11.....says files necessary to do so were already deleted.????? what now?????

hwheeler43 November 13th, 2008 04:23 PM

I would definitely try adjusting hardware acceleration. It could fix it for you.

Glen Turner November 13th, 2008 04:24 PM

Just looked at it...it's on FULL........?????

hwheeler43 November 13th, 2008 05:12 PM

Try backing it off a couple of notches and see what happens. I would try adjusting it over to the first notch on the left past none first. I really think this might fix the issue. Basically try each one.

hwheeler43 November 13th, 2008 05:14 PM

I will try to boot up one of my Toshiba laptops when I get home and let you know where they are set. I think there is something in the manual about this too.
