ddouglas, you need to make up your mind before writing here. I have always taken what you say seriously.:?:f

Don't load WMP11 and do load SP3. According to MTU you do not need WMP 11 or 12 unless you are running Vista. This is from the programmers who went back and checked the code to make sure.

According to MTU you don't have to have WMP 11. That doesn't mean you can't use it. I told Laddie to not load it and go ahead and load SP3. What I say to one person is not necessarily for all. I wanted her to try it with SP3 but with WMP9 or 10. Then if that still worked ok then she can load WMP11 (which I hadn't told her yet).
Sorry if I confused you.:f She was doing a step by step reload to see if she could figure out where the problem came in.

if you want to reload windows without losing any programs or info on your hard drive, follow these steps:

http://www.informationweek.com/news/...leID=189400897

scroll down to the bottom of the page and there are more pages.

ddouglass July 21st, 2008 11:22 PM

Beavis, that will only fix problems with initial load parts of XP. It would work for things such as constant Windows errors that cause you to have to reboot or error with blue screen. I don't think it would have fixed the script errors or some of the other items. Good idea though. Maybe they could try that and then if it doesn't work fall back to the old tried and true reformat and build from scratch.

:e:rGee, maybe they should have waited longer to put out 4.0 ??? :e:r

Back some time ago, we were trying to use the same player for XP and Vista. Since Vista COMES WITH WMP11 AND... Vista requires WMP11, our player required MWP11.

However, after loosing all our hair and sanity, we finally split the player. 4.00 and later has an XP player that works with WMP9 quite fine. The Vista player still requires WMP11, and Vista only runs with 11. One beta tester has reported his .WMV (Microsoft format video files) DO NOT play with WMP11. And you want us to be free of "all problems"? We're working on it daily! :g

Currently, IE7 is required. However, since IE6 has lots of problems, and IE7 comes down with Windows Updates, you really, really, really should have IE7 anyway. We think we could run on IE6, but I am not going to have us spend the time to find out. IE7 is superior, and safer.

As to XP's SP3, some of our Beta's found improved performance with Hoster 4.0x on it. We test on SP3, not on SP2. Thus, SP3 is recommended. Keep in mind that Microsoft deemed it important enough to develop SP3, and for you to download and install it. Required for Hoster? Not to my knowledge, but recommended.

Reloading does FAR more than just running that code version. Reloading Windows for 20 years has been the "ultimate fix". It is even more so today. :r

I would run SP2 first. As stated in my post above, Hoster 4 does NOT require SP3. Read it again carefully and you will see some Beta Testers found improved performance on their systems. Reinstalling Windows would also likely improve performance. :w

Laddie, well said, and so very true.

Every computer is unique. Let me restate that... EVER COMPUTER IS UNIQUE. When you buy an off-the-shelf computer, it is NOT fully installed with Windows upgrades and hardware drivers. We spend typically 6 hours doing these upgrades on the Laptops we buy, upgrade and test, before we ship them. We buy the latest and greatest systems to sell. The Windows we receive is so far outdated, it is incredible. :e

Many problems are cured by going to your computer's manufacturer's web page, and downloading/installing their latest drivers... motherboard, graphics, card, audio card, everything. If one of your computer drivers is not up to date to run with the latest Windows, the computer won't run the latest Windows reliably. :r Dear gussy! That is so easy to say, but so hard to get users to understand.

What Laddie is saying as I have tried to say is every system is different. Those who are having this problem have something either missing or corrupted that is causing this. Laddie is re-installing here whole system from scratch to get this fixed. Sometimes drastic measures have to be done to recover. If it was the same with my show machine I would do exactly the same thing since I have very little loaded on that computer and it would fairly quick to do. Installing a backup or a second loaded hard drive will not acomplish this because the incorrect item would still be there.
SP3 is not necessary to run Hoster 4.01, but we did find during beta testing that it fix some minor problems, probably by installing some update that had been missed. It has always been the recommendation to keep your computers up-to-date. That means all updates.

Dale, as always, your decades of experience as a Support Expert with the Air Force is so valuable here. We just have to keep plugging the uniqueness of each system, and to get the hardware updates also. Folks only think about the Windows "CUSTOM" updates, but going to their computer Makers site and downloading the hardware drivers is just as important.

Yesterday, one of our programmers told me the "snow" in the lyrics display being reported by a few users could be caused by out-of-date graphics card hardware drivers. There is a post in this Thread stating that very problem.

We have taken the "high road" with Hoster 4 to come out with a state-of-the-art product when we released. Since our lyrics display was written 10 years ago, we needed to rewrite it with "modern" technology. We didn't expect WMP11 to have some of the problems we have and are seeing. I'm confident Microsoft will fix them. Vista is their current STANDARD OS, so their reputation is on the line.

As an honored Beta Tester, you and MTU did not expect as many problems to remain as we are seeing. We are watching closely to see if there is some "Windows requirement" we can remove so more folks will have less problems.

Laddie, have you gotten SP3 loaded and is everything still working? You haven't said and we are all hoping it does work.

Admin, THANK YOU so much for coming on the Forum and responding to all these posts. I must confess, I was getting very frustrated reading & trying to make sense of everything that has been said. Some of the posts were clearly a response to a particular individual's case, but it was not always clear that was the case & hence the confusion multiplied.
THANK YOU AGAIN for all the explanations!

laddie July 22nd, 2008 10:37 AM

I have not had a chance to reload SP3, I had an unrelated sound driver issue that I need to resolve before I continue...I hope to load sp3 tonight.

Let you know how that works out.

Skybird, I'll try to make my self clearer from now on. I am an old technician and don't express myself as well as I should when trying to convey my answers.

Thanks!!!!! I didn't mean to jump on you. I can see now how you were trying to help each person individually.

just wanna apologize for creating this confusion, belive me it's not my intention, just looking for a solution, i've spent hundreds of dollars buying virtual dj softwares/equipments just to find out that it wont work due to a certain driver/programs in my laptop that is not compatible with such product, and i am the type of guy that dont care about rebates or money back guarantee, i dont have for time for all that..so i decided to read on stuff before i buy things, all i wanted is making sure that it will work for me..so once again i'm so sorry...

The Drivers Are Updated And It Works!!

Support responded to a ticket of mine where I had all recommended settings on my computer IE7 WMP 11 and Hoster 4.01

Still I HAD and stress HAD the audio but no lyrics.Looked like multi colored snow and if you looked closely you could see that the graphics were changing(as thay would with the sweeping of the lyrics).

THERE WONDERFUL ADVICE WAS TO VISIT MY MANUFACTURERS WEB PAGE
AND GET UPDATED GRAPHICS DRIVERS FOR MY COMPUTER.

There are several companies trying to sell a service where they will update your drivers. I actually ended up going with one of them since I had very little luck getting them from Acer.

THANKS MTU FOR THE GREAT SUPPORT AND THE BEST PRODUCT!!:g

I loaded wmp11 and all MS updates except sp3. For some reason I cannot load sp3. The page opens for the down load but it just sits there. I also have another problem that I believe in related to the rebuild and not to hoster, every time I reboot I lose my sound card driver. I have to open the device manager and reload the driver. I will try to find out why and can’t load SP3. The good news is I still get lyrics. Let you know what happens when I get it loaded.

Beavis July 23rd, 2008 09:14 AM

my suggestion is to reformat your computer.

you will have a fresh copy of windows.

do all windows custom updates, then install hoster.

do not put any programs on the computer that are not needed.

that is what i do when i cant fix critical problems.

FYI: i dont remember the last time oi reformatted because of hoster.:g

laddie July 23rd, 2008 09:19 AM

I think I have the solution for both my current problems....I will try them both. Reformating is a last resort for me.

Beavis July 23rd, 2008 09:29 AM

i prefer not to waste 10's of hours trying to figure out what the problem is.

reformatting and updating takes 2 hours max maybe 3.
