The fact you have had a problem with this for 2 years is painful to hear. I thought everything was smooth with this CDG import. :e
I can see now that 512RAM on my old laptop was not enough. I just assumed my laptop was too slow in many ways, so I didn't try adding more RAM.
Is it possible to upgrade your RAM to 1GB?

My new laptop has 2Gig of RAM, but has a poor internal drive. I should have said that I have not yet tried hooking up the USB Plextor to my new laptop. After reading everyone's posts, I believe it will work.
Thanks for responding.

Well I've done the custom updates and I believe that did the trick. thank you, thank you , thank you

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, but I have continued to try to do the defragging before I gave this test a try and it just runs forever at the present time it has been running for 15 hours. I have cancelled and tried again several times any idea why this is happening or am I not patient enough.

I did the test anyway and it seems to be working fine!!!

Thanks again for all your help, Stu (looking forward to 4.0).

How much free space (percentage) does the defrag program show on your drive when you analyze it?
The minimum recommended is 25% of the drive. This allows Windows to have enough room for temporary files and operating room. Defrag does not do well and takes extreme amounts of time if there isn't more than 25% free space for it to move files segments around to get the fragmentation out. Defrag will also be very slow if the amount of fragmentation is excessive. I have run Defrag for as long as 24 hrs for it to get done (not my computers....at work :g )

I don't know if anyone is still reading this post, but I'm having this problem again. I am constantly doing all the updates and defrags and I'm still having sporatic problems loading customers cdg's on my vista machines with 3.321.

Sometimes Hoster crashes and sometimes the lyrics and music get out of sync. I never had this problem with any previous version of Hoster. So I don't think it can be blamed on updates or cd/dvd players. I suppose it can be blamed on vista, but I think there is a problem that still needs some attention. If there is a solution that I'm not aware please advise!

4.0 is almost ready for XP, and maybe not long afterwards for Vista!

Temp Solution to CDG Import Problem

Temp Solution to CDG Import Problem

Run your show from Hoster #1 and play singers Disc from Hoster #2 It Works with no problems or Sound Dropout..

<DIR><DIR>1) Start Hoster Program and minimize it.
2) Reposition Hoster window #1 to upper right corner
3) If you are Not in extended monitor mode you will need to resize lyric window.
4) Start Hoster Program #2 and minimize it.
5) Reposition Hoster Window #2 to lower left corner.
6) Go to file and click on new to create a new play list, now click on file then SaveAs and Name it Singer Disc then click on the save window you’re ready.
7) Now when you get a singers Disc import it from Hoster #2 and it will not affect Hoster #1 even while running your show from Hoster #1 window.

</DIR></DIR>

Thanks Joe, this seems to work in my initial test.

I'll post back here after I do a show to see if the solves my problem until a fix comes in.
I'm hoping 4.0 fixes the problem. I'm considering changing operating system to XP to get 4.0 quicker and maybe that will solve the problem also.

Thanks again!!

That's the general recommendation! I am switching "upgrading" to XP as soon as I can afford to get the discs - hopefully before the stores stop selling them!

V.i.s.t.a?

You can run two operating systems from the same computer XP & Piss Sta!, I mean Vista. Joe....

According to Microsoft. yes you can, but they don't recommend since VISTA uses a Boot Configuration Database, versus the BIOS operating systems like XP or Windows 2000. Here is a breakdown from MS.

To create a working multi-boot configuration, install the oldest version of the Windows operating system first. Then, install each newer version in order. Every new Windows version preserves backward compatibility for starting earlier Windows versions.

To create a multi-boot configuration that includes Windows Vista, you must have at least one partition for each earlier Windows version that you install. Follow these general guidelines: <table class="list ul"> <tbody> <tr> <td class="bullet">•</td> <td class="text">Create at least two partitions. Use one partition for the Windows Vista installation.

Note If the partition for Windows Vista is already formatted, make sure that it is formatted by using the NTFS file system. However, we recommend that you use one of the following methods: <table class="list ul"> <tbody> <tr> <td class="bullet">•</td> <td class="text">Create the second unformatted partition.</td></tr> <tr> <td class="bullet">•</td> <td class="text">Do not create the second partition and leave the space as free space. Instead, create the second partition during the Windows Vista installation. </td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr> <tr> <td class="bullet">•</td> <td class="text">If the computer does not have an operating system installed, install the oldest Windows version first.

Note Install Windows XP before you install Windows Server 2003. </td></tr> <tr> <td class="bullet">•</td> <td class="text">Run the Windows Vista Setup program. Install Windows Vista in the free space or in the existing partition. You can run this Setup program in the earlier Windows version, or you can start the computer when the Windows Vista disc is in the CD or DVD drive. </td></tr></tbody></table>After Windows Vista Setup finishes, you will have a correctly-configured, multi-boot environment that includes Windows Vista and the earlier versions of Windows. The Bootmgr boot menu that appears resembles the following menu: Microsoft Windows Earlier Windows Operating System

I think that this is more trouble than its worth. I would recommend that you go ahead and install XP and forego VISTA, until MTU or Microsoft can make the necessary changes for Video Hoster 4.0 to run correctly.
Plus you have to sacrifice space for two O/S partitions.

I'm running XP Home /w SP3, and all custom updates, Hoster 3.317. .Net Framework1. Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K06 I have been unable to find firmware updates for this drive

Have you updated .Net Framework to at least v2 with the latest patches? You should anyway, it fixes many vulnerability issues.

Also here is the link for Pioneer for firmware updates. You might have looked here already.

?

Wow what did I ask For I'm lost for words How bout a cheap 160 Drv at your local corner computer store loaded with XP OS for you?
Then all you have to due is swap Drv or maybe set it up as an external Boot Drv.?

capnvic June 24th, 2008 04:56 PM

In a way that is what I did with the Inspiron 1520. I installed XP sp2 on it and ran the updates. Works fine.

capnvic June 24th, 2008 04:59 PM

With the price of a 160GB SATA laptop drive from most of the vendors like Tiger Direct or Newegg. It makes sense. It was a fairly easy install. I did it when I upgraded from a 60GB to a 160 on my Dell Inspiron E1505. Stash the old drive away for future considerations.
