I'm so sorry. I feel SOOOO lucky that I was able to do this. Just now moving from "recovery file" to hoster. Screwed up my work schedule today good, but at least it's only for today and not for the next 3 weeks!

Best of luck on finding a way to get yours back. :)

Jsut on an off chance I am going to ask this. Have you done a search of the entire C: drive to see if you can locate the files?

RickK February 26th, 2008 01:17 AM

Went back to 3.317

After loosing all my KMA files twice and having to cancel two engagements
I removed 3.319 and inatalled 3.317. Haven't had any problems since.

Just a hand full of songs. Its all gone . At least I have lots of free space on my drive now..... I guess I'll wait for MTU to fixit and send me another upgrade and start loading up cdg's againnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 02:30 AM

Well all did not go exactly as it was appearing to - When I got everything recovered and back to where it belonged, I began looking randomly for songs. They showed on a search but then when I clicked on to play it, it said it wasn't found. So I had the shell of the listing but no actual files. I have had to go in and reload all my Pioneer CDGs, and who knows what else. I'm thinking I probably got 80% back which is better than nothing. It will probably take a while to figure out what else is missing. I'm really afraid to take this to a show without the player and discs.

I'm chalking this up to bad timing on my part, getting a newly released upgrade. NEVER a good idea.

Sorry to hear about your corporal punishment, which is what I have come to call loading CDGs.

Metalgodz February 27th, 2008 02:44 AM

Thats really freaky because the only songs that I found were pioneer 19. And they play great. If I'm not mistaken the were on the demo version. The demo that made me fall in love with Hoster. The one before the evil, satanic worshiping, black sabbaths first album cover UPGRADE. I curse you and spit on your grave. better go to sleep this has been a FREAKIN NIGHTMARE.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 02:47 AM

truly a nightmare.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 12:20 PM

And the nightmare continues....

After doing the recovery, which recovered 99% of the lost files, I discovered that even though the .kma is listed, the song is not found. So, added all the lost Pioneers. This morning I run a search for find all .kma - almost everything is gone again....

I am ready to throw in the towel on this. I spent $1500 to do this conversion, and have spent literally hundreds of hours...The prospect of now having to spend probably another 200-300 hours on uploading my CDGs AGAIN is not a good one for me.

I'm ready to jump the fence here and go with the competition as it doesn't seem to matter what I do with this software, I'm wasting my time.

I understand that people who created this upgrade are going crazy trying to 'fix' this but that doesn't help me right now.

About had it....

Beavis February 27th, 2008 12:31 PM

the minute you recovered your files, you should have backed them up to another hard drive.

plus you should have uninstalled hoster as it has a flaw in the version 3.319

Beavis February 27th, 2008 12:33 PM

i assure you that this has never happened before with hoster and look at my join date, thats a long time using hoster happy !!

Karen K February 27th, 2008 12:34 PM

I DID! But apparently even with everything backed up, and all the .kma's showing, the song files come up on a search but are empty. My backup (I haven't checked it yet) is intact but based on the fact that even though the .kma files are showing but are EMPTY, I probably have a backup full of just names, no songs.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 12:35 PM

I will uninstall but doubtful about going with hoster now..>Will bite the $200 cost of the software and stop spending hours and hours loading music. This was my FIRST version, loaded on a brand new computer.

Karen are the files really gone (can't find them with Windows Explorer) or are they not being found in Hoster?

Karen K February 27th, 2008 01:46 PM

gone. I did a search for them through Explorer. Everytime I do a search for .kma files, the number of them found drops - half as many today as yesterday, after spending all day reloading Pioneers. I have a backup copy on an external harddrive, but like i said in the above post, based on what I found when I tried to locate songs after the recovery, and the files appeared to be there but were EMPTY (only the names, nothing contained within the file), I believe my backup probably contains a lot of empty .kma files. Not going to try and run it through this current software as it may corrupt whatever I have been able to salvage.

Just sick about this...Hundreds and hundreds of hours already done, and hundreds of hours to do it again. I can't afford to spend that much time again, I'm thinking - doesn't make sense.

It would sound to me as if a harddrive were going bad, or possibly a virus.

I know it is assumable that hoster did it since you just did an upgrade. I have also been using it forever, and have never seen anything like this. I keep 2 backups of my harddrive. a drive can go out for no reason, and without notice.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 02:56 PM

This is NOT an upgrade, this is my first Hoster software. I have a BRAND new computer...I have NO idea what I"m going to do now. bad taste in my mouth after hundreds of hours. Maybe it is the harddrive. Will take it to my geek.

I don't understand why you are slamming MTU on the karaokescene technical forum when MTU is trying to help?

I am using 3.319 on my laptop for my shows. It has never deleted a single song. I could Imagine something else you have done on the computer might have, or the drive going out. You should search for the problem, and not blindly blame them.

Karen K February 27th, 2008 03:42 PM

It's called venting...At my wit's end as you might imagine. I have no idea what my recourse will be yet. Sorry if this offends you. You can't imagine the frustration level right now in my house. Am researching all possibilities as to why this has happened and at this point am ready just to continue using CDGs....

lmcmains February 27th, 2008 03:47 PM

Did you do a search on your hard drive for .kma files?

Karen K February 27th, 2008 04:02 PM

For those new to this thread: Let me reiterate a little.

Purchased new computer, MTU Hoster software at the beginning of February. Proceeded to load 925 CDGs....Saturday last, everything was loaded....had a library of 15,000 songs roughly. Set up in living room, computer, dual monitors, speakers, etc. Everything worked great. Set to do show Monday night.

Monday morning I go back on computer to check something. All of a sudden i have only 3,173 songs....Did an explorer search for .kma files. Gone. Manage to find online software to do a recover and appeared to have recovered 10,000 files that were missing.

Move all the recovered files to the correct drive ... begin searching for songs randomly and find that all PIONEER CDGs are NOT there....but everything else appears to be there. Yesterday reload all the Pioneer CDgs (quite a number of them) By the time that chore is finished, do another search and BINGO, more songs gone. This morning I do a search for .kma files, lots missing again. Rather, what seems to happen is the files are there but there is nothing in the file apparently.

In the meantime, after the apparent successful recovery, I back the drive up to a Western Digital 500GB book (brand new). I'm thinking woohoo, everything is safe....but now I am concerned that this backup will contain those empty files.

Don't mean to rag on anyone here but after spending a substantial amount of money on what I consider to be the best program for computer hosting, the new computer, and the HUNDREDS of hours (most of you can relate, who have ripped CDGs), I'm at my wit's end.

Again: New computer (clean 500-GB drives), NOT AN UPDATE OF HOSTER but the NEW RELEASE from the end of January....COMPUTER IS NOT ON LINE AT ALL. No power failures. Can't think of anything else I might have done so can only assume it is software.

I have a laptop with Hoster Lite on it but am afraid to try and run the backed up copy on the WD "book" in case the files are corrupt or something weird...or will just find that everything I thought was good is empty.

ARGGGGGG.....Sorry, don't mean to offend. Not my nature, really. Just now swinging at the end of my rope.

K
