Have just upgraded from Hoster 3.321A to Hoster 4.01 and am pleased to advise that the DK tracks previously affected by this issue now play perfectly. It may have taken a while but the old motto 'Good things come to those who wait' is indeed correct in this case. Thanks MTU.

... Am also delighted with 4.01 ... absolutely no issues whatsoever running with XP Pro. Awesome!

BEECEE August 19th, 2008 09:25 PM

Have just upgraded from Hoster 4.02 to 4.03.

Although a number of previous 4.02 issues have been fixed (and a BIG 'Thanks' for doing so), the problem originally highlighted in this thread has re-appeared under 4.03.

4.01 and 4.02 played the DK tracks concerned perfectly. The graphics issue was prevalent in 3.310 through to 3.21A (incl 3.4) ... and has come back again in 4.03.

Ten giant steps forward ... but alas one small step back :f

Hey BeeCee,
MTU had to do alot of code slinging to get the old player back into Hoster 4. Two steps forward and one step back sometimes. :r All of these points will be fixed soon. The focus of 4.04 is geting Video to import into the database so video is next. :c They'll get the DK issue fixed I'm sure.

This may be because the player has been changed back to the original one used before 4.00. Have you tried reimporting them or tried importing them into Microstudio? Both have better error correction for imports now over anything out before.

Thanks for the advice Dale.

I tried both of your suggestions without success i.e. I attempted to play one of the problem tracks direct from the CDG disk via Microstudio 4.006 and also re-imported same into Hoster 4.03.

Sorry – no joy. Clearly some incompatibility with the old lyrics player. As originally reported 18 months ago by myself and several others - this symptom is peculiar to certain DK tracks with a diagonal song title swipe.

It's more of an annoyance than a cause of major concern :?

Hey BeeCee,
These annoyances are a concern to MTU. The owner can't sleep at night if his clients aren't using perfect code. Thank you for reminding them about this issue. I have no DK disc so I'm no help in this department. :r

I feel this will be addressed in 4.04 while they are getting the import video feature ironed out. :w

Thanks again,

Jim

Beecee,

I have two versions of Carolyn (Merle Haggard) on DK072-15 and DK Applause DK3041-12. The DK072-15 that sweeps diagonally is garbled on lyrics, but DK3041-12 plays just fine! Also tried to reload ( import ) from original DK disc in Edit mode and also on show import that you would use for clients that bring in their own disc. Same result with garbled lyrics on the DK072-15 version.

Luckily I have second, or third versions of most of the affected DK song titles, so I'll be patient while MTU gets to fixing this problem for all!:w

Yes, I can see this old DK problem has returned. It was serendipitous that it worked in our "new 4.00" player. However, NOTHING ELSE worked in that player and worst of all many users lost sync between the lyrics and music. That... is totally unacceptable to us.

So, after months of striving with Microsoft's Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer (both at the core of our "new" player), we thre them out! By returning to the older, tried and true player, ALL problems (17 fixed) are now gone.

We did have a problem with the Pioneer logo in our new player, and wasted a lot of time partly fixing that. It was incredibly complex, with shifting indices we had to keep track of all the time. :r :m

We spent a LOT of time creating our new player, and fully expect to return to using it one day. It has some superior features we will want down the road.

Thus, we don't want to invest more time to fix the DK problem in the currently used, older player. I hope you all understand. This was something that DK did that is very abnormal, and won't be trivial to fix.

Since it works in our new player, we'd be further down the road working on getting that to work without Windows Media Player versus custom coding a DK fix.

I posted a FIX (post #9) for this about a year ago. It's not a fix for Hoster, it's a fix for the individual tracks. It sounds more difficult than it really is. It requires Microstudio and/or Songverter and Editcdg (freeware).
Perhaps not practical if you have a lot of 'em but works well for those must have or often played songs.

Admin - Thanks for the feedback. I understand your rationale in terms of not spending more time to try and custom code a DK fix for the old player.

Sam - I didn't try your workaround previously because on first glance it looked too difficult. However ... I've just this moment successfully followed your instructions to the letter and it really was easy :g. Thanks!

Glad I could help

In writing that post it seemed pretty simple at the time probably because I had just done it. In re-reading it today I thought 'man this looks complicated'.

Creating a how-to video for this to put on youtube has been on my to-do list for some time as well as using editcdg to fix the reversed colors that many early Soundchoice tracks suffer, but I keep getting distracted.

We just released Hoster 3.315, which was critical to get out so we now are shipping Microsoft Vista compliant software.

We will try to look at this problem this week. We're still critical to get Microstudio 4.000 released by the end of Feb, so that may delay our working on this. The important thing is for us to be able to create the problem.

Dave, we just found your discs today. :)

We have been looking everywhere for them. They will go back to your 1455 S..... address unless you call and tell us different. You can leave a voice message on x204 SUPPORT.

I am very sorry we have caused you concern. I was getting ready to buy you a new pair.

We'll import the tracks as KMA's so we can diagnose what is weird with the CDG/RW codes. If it is easy, we'll fix it in 4.04. If not easy, we won't fix it as our new Lyrics player code handles them properly, and we'll return to using that code some time not too distant.

You put a HUGE SMILE on my face. I had already to kissed those two discs goodbye. Yes by all means please send them back to the address you stated in the above post. Bless you all at MTU and thanks.

BTW Mindonstrike, please open up your "TO DO" list and make a YOUTUBE video of all of the steps for EDITCDG. I have tried the program on many occasions but just couldn't figure it out (it always stopped working before the problem area). I am sure it will help many MTU patrons.

Regards, Dave

EditCDG guide (acrobat document)
Excellent document describing how to use EditCDG. Written by B Flat.
Never had a chance to thank you for all the time put into this document, so here's a big thank you!

or use this link on the same page:

Basically, for simple Graphic problems, usually misplaced Pixels, play CDG Trk in a CDG player and make a note as to the TIME a problem occurs. Scroll down the TIME index listed on the Left to just before your noted TIME and click into the panel on some time to turn it BLUE. Use F8 key to STEP FORWARD until you see the problem occur. STEP BACK ONE step with F7. Press F2, or click the ICON, to open the "Edit Tile Block" window. Observe where the MISPLACED Pixel is located in the Window and use your MOUSE to CLICK where the MISPLACED Pixel is supposed to be...it should be obvious. Save and repeat to the end of the Song.

As you become more proficient, you will be able to Recover lost Pixels, Change Commands, and even, change the Color of the Graphics, including the SWEEP Color, if you want...among other things.

... The graphics issue has partially reappeared in 4.06

In 4.04, the DK graphics issue highlighted in this thread was was fixed:

V4.04 - Released September 18, 2008

FIXED DK Songs Logo - Some DK songs have a very different logo that did not draw correctly in 3.321a and prior, 3.40 and 4.03 versions. We have fixed this.

There were no problems with this issue in 4.05.

However, with 4.06 the garbled graphics problem with the DK diagonal sweeps has partially re-appeared. The graphics are initially garbled and then seem to 'self correct' after a momentary pause.

All custom Windows updates (Belarc confirmed), Video Card drivers etc are in place. I even uninstalled 4.06; reinstalled 3.321A; reinstalled the 4.05 upgrade; tested - no problems. Reinstalled the 4.06 upgrade and alas we've taken a step back again.

I can revert back to the 'workaround' but maybe this can be revisited again in 4.07?

For the record I'm running XP SP3; AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual Core Processor 4600+; 2.0 Gig RAM; NVidia GeForce 7600GT; 320GB Hard Drive with plenty of spare space.

Great to see the extremely positive feedback from the other 4.06 users.

Cheers,

Brian
