But have you heard of any past import problems with chartbuster on this post or elsewhere?

From our testing, ChartBuster is the pits. Their multisession format and track 15 was THE WORST for us to be able to import. Their ERROR rate (snowflakes) are incredibly bad. They have 2-byte and 3-byte errors all over the place. Our current Reed-Solomon error detection/correction software doesn't fix 2- or 3-byte errors. Thus, CB tracks will be the worst that you import.

About your problem importing a song over an already imported song, have you read the manual? We spent a lot of time allowing this to be done.

Click the Help menu, then the Read Manual command. When the manual appears in your Browser, paste the following into the Address line and execute it:

file:///C:/Program%20Files/Micro%20Technology%20Unlimited/Hoster/Manual/hoster-import-cd.htm#ReImport

This should take you to the ReImport topic where this is explained in detail. Our users have been doing an excellent job of trying to help you, but I think the manual is what you now need to read and understand. :w

Thank you very much Moderator for your info.
I think part of my problem is clearly stating my problem.

Yes, I read or at least I thought I have read the manual quite thoroughly. My unique problem only seems to be able to reimport a file (because the one on the disc was unnacceptable) from the HD that is added to an existing DiscID/Book ID that was previously imported from a disc and assigned a book ID. The import from the HD keeps telling me that the Book ID is already in use and to choose another one.
But I need to keep the same book ID and to append that reimported song to the same root book ID as the disc. In other words, make it like all songs from the disc would have all imported correctly.

Is this possible? I will read and reread the manual again,
however. If I cannot find an answer may I make a re-request to you or call for clarification?

Also, Administrator, if you could help me?

Earlier, another post suggested I copy the CB discs then import them from the copied disc and the errors would not show up.
Does this makes sense, I hope so!

lmcmains February 7th, 2006 03:04 PM

That is the way I do if I am having proplems with the "snow flakes". I have a Plextor 716a and I use Micro-Studio software. Then with the copy I import it into Hoster. Most of the time if you have a disc with "snow flakes" Mtu's Micro-studio and a Plextor will make a copy better. Seems like on CB if you have "snow flakes" they seem to get worse as the disc plays. I don't think CB refreshes the screen each time it changes. On SC disc's they seem to refresh their screen each time. So they don't keep getting worse all the time.
Then you may get a bad spot and they are just there for that screen only.

Still Working On HD Reimport

I have received excellent help from Gduns, Nreel, Beavis, and ADMIN on this before. I think my problem is that I haven't stated my situation clearly. Please let me try again?

1) I imported a disc of 15 songs, assigned it Disc ID 4-05, and the book ID to 405.

2) Track number 15 was unsatisfactory and needs to be reimported.

3) I have a good copy of track 15 as a bin file in a folder on the HD.

4) As previously advised, I prefaced this filename with
405-15 - and this worked quite well.

5) When I click "add files" the file DOES come up on the track list with the correct song title and artist and as track
number 15 disc id 4-05.

6) I now assign book ID as 405 so this track will have a final book ID of 40515 , consistent with others from the disc.

7) When I click on "import file" here is where I get the message "Book ID already in use, please assign another Book ID".

I believe the program, at this point, checks for existing book ID's and DOES NOT allow any way to append to the existing when reimporting from the HD.

However, I have re-imported tracks from discs and it DOES append to existing book ID's quite well. But does not allow this to happen from the HD.

I wonder if I start over (erase all disc ID 405 files) and import track 15 from the HD first, then import the other 14 tracks from the disc afterwards.

I really appreciate all your guidance thus far, but am still in need of your help, Please, as I have several discs I have to do this to.

BRYANT,
I cannot say this for certain, But I think the problem is you are trying to mix cdg tracks with hdbin tracks with the same diskid.

In other words if you had imported all 15 tracks from harddrive, it may have worked.

or if you had imported all 15 tracks from cdg, it may have worked.

I don't believe it will let you mix them.

a suggestion maybe would be to burn a cd-rw with 14 dummy tracks (anysongs), and burn the 15th track, with the one from the harddrive. Only import that 1 track to that diskid. it should work.

you caould save this disk, and anytime you have a bad track 15 , erase the 15th track, and reuse the disk. :g

bryant February 8th, 2006 09:46 AM

gduns, Man, thanx a lot for that excellent tip!

I can always count on you, can't I.

Once I close a cd-rw however, will it simply let me re-write over it, or do I actually have to reformat it again. I haven't done much with rewriteables lately. They used to be "not so" dependable but perhaps they are easier to work with now.

gduns - with the Lord February 8th, 2006 09:48 AM

I am not sure, I have heard of others doing this, but I dont think you finalize or close a cd-rw. Others may be able to tell you.

Beavis February 8th, 2006 10:50 AM

ignore this !

gduns - with the Lord February 8th, 2006 10:54 AM

Beavis,
using MS access is a bad idea. a lot of the people on this board are barely computer literate. That is way........ to advanced for most users to get into.

NOT RECOMMENDED

bryant February 8th, 2006 11:02 AM

Ah, Beavis, yes, I went to the kma folder and deleted track number 15. Now the folder contains only 405-1.kma thru 405-14.kma. Re-tried the whole process and still got the "book ID already in use" message.

Gduns had a good suggestion, but do you think that maybe
if I start over by deleting all 405-xx.kma files then import the HD bin file first, follow that with the reimport of the 14 good files from the disc. Think that might work?

It seems that reimporting from discs allows appending to existing book ID's. I'm not sure if the program cares about where the previous files come from (either HD or disc) as gdun hypothesized. But it may be true that one cannot mix HD and disc imports?

Whatya think?

What would you do?

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

If you delete those files, then do a database rebuild.

Then and only then will hoster not see the bookid you entered (405).

You can then import all of the files from the Hd. (with book id of 405)

Beavis February 8th, 2006 11:12 AM

is all your trying to do is re-import a song in the same place it was before?

bryant February 8th, 2006 11:15 AM

Another good suggestion gduns! I like your first suggestion better because I might have to end up burning a number of entire discs to bin files. And that might be too lengthy of a process.

bryant February 8th, 2006 05:24 PM

When I burn the 14 dummy bin files plus the 15th track bin file to a cd-rw disc, I get the message "Disc is not empty". The disc was brand new. then i reformatted the disc itself and same message came up. Any idea wjy this is anyone?

I mix 'em all the time when I'm trying to conserve rootid#s. I think the dash in the diskid is the culprit.
Based on what I remember about a post from songpony was Hoster will let you use a dash in the diskid when importing from cdg, but it will not let you use one importing from HD.
I don't recall if songpony found a solution.

bryant February 8th, 2006 07:02 PM

Yes, Beavis, Do you have any suggestions? without having to burn a whole new disk each time. As I tried the cd-rw and that didn't burn very well at all. kept saying disc is not empty , when in fact it was?

Can you help me here please?
