Re: hoster program is closing

Absolutely!!! I have been on the forum before and ranted about the shut downs with 4.22 lite and my dell studio xps/w7. last night i had 4 shut downs. it happens more frquently each week. I just uninstalled it and want to reinstall my old 3.321. I have a freaind who did the same thing with a toshiba w7. he reinstalled 3.321 and has no problems. I still say the most stable combo i have used in the 7 years ive been with hoster is xp and 3.321 period. I am trying to reach bryan after talking to lynn today to get a code that will allow the 3.321 install. if this doesn't worki will sell the dell and try to find a xp used unit. i already have two other older xp's with 3.321 that work great but are slower on the draw, i really had hoped to utilise my i5 4 gig dell for greater speed and to take advantage of the newer hoster upgrades, but not working out. i called dell and there are no trouble spots in the unit and no new updates so go figure???

Ed as long as you have the install file for 3.321 you should be able to install it with the same reg code you are using right now for the 4.32. You do not need a new code.

Re: hoster program is closing

I had 4.22 and i did use the same code and it was rejected as being the wrong product code. I appreciate the response. I am waiting to hear back from bryan to see why the code didn't take. I am still puzzled as to these shut downs. I either bought a lemon in the dell or there is a dark cloud following me around. Lynn said she is not getting reports of shut downs. Is there anything else to deduce?

I fully agree with Dale. Win 7 is a HOG for CPU and RAM, while XP was a solid workhorse that could easily run in 2GB RAM.

Upgrade to at least 4GB. :w

I do not run BA so I can eliminate this as a reason. I have just re-checked all of my settings and they are what is recommended for Hoster.
I am using a HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop Windows 7 os i3 CPU 4gb Ram 64 bit 550 gb Hard Drive.
My VM is set at 3055 with a max size of 4096.(Does this need changed?)
I have my music stored on my hard drive approx 16200 songs, I do not import singers disks during a show.
The problem appears ramdomly and I can re-open Hoster with out losing singers songs.
I'm not sure any of this info will help with the problem/fix, but I thought I would pass it along.
The version of Hoster I am using is 4.32
If there is additional info you need, please let me know.

If you keep the Singers and Search dialogs open (and out of your way or minimized) Hoster usually will not crash, as long as you don't open & close dialogs while running a Show.

We're aware of this, but so far have not been able to cause a crash. We've tried everything that has been reported, while running a debug version with a diagnostic program also monitoring everything that is going on. No joy yet. :r :s

I work often and just can't tolerate the shut down situation any longer . Ive been plenty patient. I at least now know i'm not alone in this. I hate to go back to 3.321 and my old xp computers but those are the only work horses that i can bank on. I won't be upgrading in the near future, not until the bugs are dead. This really should be sovable. Can't figure out why this is happening at all.

Neither can MTU and you are in a minority of users that are having this problem, which MTU has tried and cannot duplicate. It may be solvable but if you can't duplicate it then you have no idea where to look.

Dale,

I don't agree that we're in the minority, just the minority reporting it.

I had stopped reporting it because I had nothing new to add and because I understand Computers and you have got to be able to recreate the problem to find it.

As I have said before, "you got to be able to catch the bug before you can kill it!"

Try as I may, I cannot correlate it to any time or happening and believe me I've tried!

It does not happen on any frequency that is explainable. I have literally documented the times it's stopped (time, song, etc.), but the same incident never occurs twice, so I stopped documenting and just accepted that it's going to happen.

Sometimes I go two or three shows and it doesn't happen, then it will appear and may happen once or twice a show! I've had it stop in the first 15 minutes and stop in the last 15 minutes and all in between. It just doesn't stop with any rhyme or reason!

I thought duriing the summer it might be heat related, but it's still happening, and where I play, there is no heat in the back of the building, so it's pretty cool (I have to wear a jacket at times).

I do believe that MTU is trying to reslove it, but it's not something easy to do. Read through the Posts, and as with me, you'll see that no one has been able to pinpoint the problem or correlate to any one happening or a particular computer or operating system.

Believe me if it was a large number of people they would be reporting it either here or through the Support Tickets. I do read through the posts in fact I read everything posted in these forums. I also am in constant touch with the staff at MTU so I usually know what they are doing to try to find this as well.
I was not trying to make it seem like this was a small problem, but that trying to figure out why it is happening is not easy. If it was a larger base of users having this problem then it would be a lot easier to pinpoint the cause.

Just a shot in the dark to try and find a common denominator here, what settings have you regarding your Tools/Audio Controls Fade in and Fade out.?
Also the Tools/Remove Silence Before audio starts & After Audio ends ?
Are any of them set to zero ?
I ask this as I had a problem with video crashing when I had the audio settings set to zero. After increasing these settings the problem disappeared.

Re: hoster program is closing

Audio Controls: Fade in - .5 ; Fade Out – 4.0

Remove Silence: Normal Play Mode (don’t use Remove Silence)

Do not use BA at all...

Re: hoster program is closing

Probably won't make any difference, but just try it for a night with fade in at 1.5 . The problem I had was if I stopped a video and started another one too quick it crashed. Raising my fade in to 3.0 and out to 1.0 cured it.

Not sure if you looked at what I had my VM set at or not; would it help if these were increased?

Not able to check these settings until this evening, I'll let you know what they are.

Roy
My fade in was 0 and my fade out was 1.5; I'll change them to 1.5 in and 1.0 out an let you know what happens. I have worked for the past three nights with no shut-downs; I believe I had left my singers list and search open most of the night. Will make sure it is open the next time I play to see if this helps.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: hoster program is closing

I have changed my Fade In to 1.5, but I'm leaving my Fade Out at 4.0.

I do this because some songs have too much music at the end of the words (i.e., The Dance). I cut it the song off if no one is dancing to it and I like for it to Fade out...

I hate a sharp cut-off, I'd rather have the music Fade out when I click he Stop button. That's also why I requested the Fade out feature on Instabuttons.

Will let you know later this week how my next show goes! However, it could be that it just doesn't happen this week.

Re: hoster program is closing

Just to add a possibility, the one time I was having random Hoster crashes (about 3 years ago), I thought it was a bug in the program. It was shutting down when it wanted to - no rhyme nor reason, could never duplicate the problem, some nights would go fluidly with not even a skip, other nights it would crash - sometimes more than one time, turns out I not only had a bad hard drive, but my mother board was dying as well. I replaced both and never had a problem since. Never would've thought it was a hardware problem since the computer was not even a year old at the time.
Seems many of the posts here are describing exactly what I went through. May want to have the computer itself checked out, might not be Hoster at all!
Just replaced the MB on my home computer last week as well, although it wasn't Hoster that I was running into problems with - it was everything.

not sure this is the problem..my pc is only about 6 months old; it could be but I seriously doubt it it.

Re: Hoster Program Is Closing ...

Ran for over 4 hours last night (Thursday) without a stop! The only change I made was to the Fade In. I went from .5 to 1.5...

But, then again, this has happened before (no stopping) and then later it resurfaces...

Go figure!
