Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

just a suggestion, when i encounter a problem during a show, i usually do a mock up show the day after and see what the problem was, it's better to do a mock up show when you're at home, that way there is no destruction, i kinda run Hoster a couple of hours, to see if the problem occurs again, and also you might want to alt, control delete to see if there is another program running in the background that might be causing the problem...

alt ctrl del Task manager, right click hoster set priority high. Set your media player normal.

Go to MTUs suggestions for setting it up, also go to Blackviper.com and turn off services everything you can possibly turn off.

Though they don't make much difference, I go through my shows PCs and get rid of all the stuff not needed. Such as student 2007 ect all prgs that have nothing to do with hosting a show KJ or DJ lot of the photo editing stuff ect.

My first thing is to do a PC search for .jpg, .bmp, .gif lot of crap and you have to sort it out. Who needs samples on their rig? You don't need ten ways to get to the net.

If it is on your rig and you don't use it, ask why?

Above all go online and update your system at least monthly.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

This past Thursday night (5/20) Hoster stopping working twice. Once during playing BA before the start of the show, then again during the show.

I turned the BA off when I started the show and it remained off the rest of the night to see if it was the problem! Doesn't look like it though... :m

Again, it stopped working in between songs, so the audience never knew the difference.

Guess maybe I've just got to learn to live with it!

We are working on this. I have just been able to duplicate this today in the office, so we will be having the programmer take a look at it this week.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

I have been using Hoster for the past 6 years. I have gone through all the ups and downs of new computers and software upgrades. My latest and greatest computer is a DEll studio xps with windows 7, 4 gig, intel i5, 500gig on board HD although i use a 1 terabyte external. I had a night mare for over a year with vista and bought this because Hoster said w7 seems to have worked out the bugs...wrong. my new computer shuts down hoster at least 3 time a night. I have had some nights though wher it goes without a hitch, but as usual its buggy and i can't figure it out. I have noticed that when i have media player running in the backround it is more apt to shut down. a friend of mine went through all the hoops and finally went back to hoster 3.321a and all the shut downs quit??? any ideas?

One thing you need to remember is Hoster uses the Media Player to play the audio. By having an additional incidence open this may be over-loading the player.
For the rest of you try using it without using the Background audio or Media Player running outside Hoster and see if that stops the shutdowns or at least lessens them.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Doug thank you for your quick reply. I could shut down windows media player but what a waste of money on alltaht ram and quick processor only to be able to run hoster solo. I can load the next singer's disc while playing a track while the present singer is up. Thats really why i bought an expensive computer , to multi-task. why can't hoster run with other programs, sounds like a weak spot in hoster doesn't it??

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

No sounds like a weak spot in Windows 7 that has apparently existed in it since the Vista days (Windows 7 is based on Vista). XP has not had any of these problems.

As Support said they will be looking at it, so maybe they can come up with a fix to get past this. I was only offering that as a work around temporary fix until they can figure out what is going on.

Besides you don't need to run a Media Player outside of Hoster as they have added the Background Audio player and you can do exactly what you are doing now. That is if it doesn't cause this too for now.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

The programmer is working on the bug, we diagnosed it this morning.

This is if you get a crash at the very END of the song, or when Status shows Wait. This is when it starts the countdown for the Automatic play with a set time in between each song. The default for this is 5 seconds.

What we found that is happening in this state, is that after a certain number of Files are played, it leaves the files open. So this is what seems to be causing the Crash. I should know for sure later on this week if we have figured it out.

Ed,
The Background Audio Player is only in the Full Version of Hoster.

This is one of the Features that was left out of Hoster Lite for the price difference.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

I did, then, try using the audio function, went into my external drive to bring up mp3's to the play list. it worked speedily and being able to set the fade in/out is nice also. i will try this on the gig and maybe what you suggested about the media player running outside of hoster is taxing the computer. since i also work as a solo singer with hoster i have my own established play list with my favorite brands and key sets always in place. it is necessary to sometimes deliver a song i don't sing live via mp3 (DJ) and i will now try using the audio function within hoster to see if the shut downs will go away. its funny but it hasn't shut down when i am playing a track for the "up" singer while simultaneously loading a song form the next singers disc and that seems to me to be a test on taxing the computer, but so far as long as i dont have media player or a seperate DJ program running at the same time it's okay.

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Sent an Email to KOD and Susan Waites with a version to test for me tonight, if possible.

Please email me back, where the email came from to you, with any results.

Thanks,
Bryan

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

come to think of it i did notice that things got a little buggy with the
"fade-in", set to anything other than "0" so i set fade in at zero and it helped somewhat and didn't appear to be as unstable. i would be happy to participate in experimenting on this thursday nights' show if you have any suggestions that you want me to run through the hoops i will report back to you

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

For Those Interested:

I ran Hoster with the BA running for over eight hours tonight singing occasionally during the night (10-15 times) without any problems at all. Hoster did not stop even once!

This is with the "Hoster fix" Bryan sent me. I am going to run it some more tomorrow to further test it.

The real test will be my Thursday night show, but I think right now they've got the problem under control.

Bryan, Thanks a lot for the quick response...

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

last night i did a show and hoster needed to shut down again. did it only once and not 3 times like last weeks show. i made sur i took the advise of dale douglas and did not have windows media player running at the same time. it made no difference and it stil shut down the one time. i can load a singrs disc during an "up"singers performance and no shut down soit is not being over taxed. I have a dell studio laptop w/i5, 4 gigs ram. its very quick and brings a song to the play list right away. why is it shutting down??

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

Things did not go well at my show last night (Thursday 5/27). Hoster ran from 7 to 8 pm with BA running without stopping before I started my show.

From 8 to 9:30 pm no problems at all. From 9:30 to 11 pm, Hoster stopped 3 times after a song (not during).

After the last time Hoster stopped, I did not turn the BA back on and from then until I shut down at 12:30 am, it did not stop anymore.

And yes, I downloaded 4.21 before I left home yesterday…

Re: Hoster Shutting Down - Stopped Working

sorry to hear you are having the same problem, however the more we get this info out there the sooner the problem can be solved by the great minds at mtu. i didn't even know a 4.21 version came out, mine is 4.20. also do you have hoster full or hoster lite? mine is "lite" and i wonder if one has more problems than the other. ah, the good old days of xp, rarely did i have these quirky problems with xp. of course i want to get the bugs out of the faster compuer since it searches, loads, imports etc so much faster.
