Hey George, did you by chance have a copy of Roxio or Nero on that laptop that came with the computer? Did you open either one of them? What program did you use to import the video CDGs? The reason I ask is because some of these can mess with your upper and lower filters in the registry. You can delete these and they will automatically reset after a reboot. If you are comfortable editing the registry, here is the procedure.

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .

4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .

6. Quit Registry Editor.

7. After you remove them Restart your computer.

If this drive is working on your XP machine, this is most likely a Vista error or another program error that is not common to both machines. This is the safest and easiest step to start with. Next, I would try deleting the drive and drivers from your system and let Vista re-discover them. You shouldn't need to provide a driver, Vista should take care of it automatically.

Keep us informed on your progress even if MTU fixes this for you. Someone else may benefit from the exchange.

Also if you have either of those programs on there be sure to remove their shortcut from the Start Menu/Startup folder. Both of those programs will try to grab exclusive use of any CD/DVD drives.

Not to my knowledge, but hey guys, i will certainly go over every inch of my desk top, and downloaded programs in search of ANY music programs, and get rid of them pronto. keep in mind ok, that i have been using this same laptop, and same writer since last october...ok? Hoster Lite has been operating just great for being on a vista machine.
Only music program that i remember removing, was Napster, and it came along with it's own player. That thing really interfeared with Hoster. Got rid of it right away, and never had a problem since. I did not use any program to download my video karaoke disc. Dale told me how to get them on my external hard drive, and i followed his directions, and they went right on????
I will look after work all over that laptop for any signs of music ware or players. I haven't up till now, because i never downloaded any, or use anything on my lappy except Hoster. I even went as far as to go over all my changes for Vista, the ones mtu said to make, just to make sure nothing had changed, and eveything is a ok?????
I really really appreciate you guys keeping me in the back of your mind. I will not change anything, if i'm not sure i know how. I will always ask first, or leave it alone. Keep thinking of my situation please..much appreciated.
Respectfully Yours, George:?

Roxio or Nero usually always ships with and is pre-installed on computers when you get them. Even if you have never used them they can be there and cause problems.

Not on mine. I just recieved a trouble ticket reply from mtu, they have reconized this issue. And it will be fixed in the next upgrade release. Apparently i'm not the only one having this issue. It will be so nice to use hoster again. I knew after importing over 12,000 CDG tracks without a single issue, that it didn't just all of a sudden develop troubles. Thank you mtu, thank you, thank you.
