I use last initails on almost all common names as you will see new ppl come in eventually with the same names as the "charter member" regulars.

Hey Joe.
When MTU added the Singer Database to Hoster 4 in the early beta stages, the suggestion was made to have "Venue" or "Club" added for reason #1. I think this is common for Pro karaoke hosts.

I agree that this feature would make it easier for a karaoke host to keep the Singer Database straight but as it is, the Singer Database is VERY workable. :w :c I too work at different clubs where singers have the same first name. I just ask for their last name, they are always honored. Or let's say I have two guys named "Jeff" in two different clubs and niether one sings that many songs (maybe 2 songs each) I just keep them both under "Jeff". If a new "Jeff" comes along that sings a bunch, I ask for his last name.

Singer's Database Refresh Rate

Your right, unless you get a singer with 50 or more songs in their database, then the refresh rate is way slow (sic). I generally will use the singer database for the initial playlist setup at the beginning of the show, I will then use signup slips and book ID's ( I know you are paperless ) to get the list updated without waiting for singers database to refresh every time I click on another tab, or switching between singer's databases. Not a big inconvenience at this time, plus I have songslips to backup the rotation, in case Hoster 4.xx freezes, graphics lag, computer crashes.... and 3.4 loses all the changes after the initial playlist!:t:g

Hey Rick,
As my Singer Database has grown, I have to agree with you about the refreshing issue. I personally believe that MTU would have done more with the Singer Database but there were just too many big fish that needed frying, so to speak.

For me, since Hoster 4.05 (and all past versions) does not freeze, does not go out of sync and does not crash I don't have to use paper or a board to keep rotation.

If everybody could run their show with my rig, we wouldn't see any negative posts against Hoster 4.XX but this just ain't gonna happen. There are too many factors to concider.

Your suggestion is great for those who still use paper which is the majority according to the "Are You Numberless/Paperless" poll.

I also used this but after a while you can't remember all of this detail on every singer especially if it's crowded and people coming at you left and right .

I have a lot going on and don't need the added task of thinking is this one in my database at this club or not and by the way most people just bring there ticket to the stage and there off so I just que from the ticket and don't bother to much with the singer database.

If it had this feature then I would use it all the time.

Don't get me wrong it's a go Idea if your working two, three four locations.

I just went back to what I was doing before, setup a list for that club and save as club cavana or something and use it when i'm there.

I'll keep on using what has been reliably accurate and not mush fussing around with.

I play at five different places and had the same problem.. I have an easy fix. I created abbreviations for each place and added that to the name.For example;
Bob jo
Bob sn
Tom Jo
Tom sn
I works well, I have lots of names in the singers list..Good customers who follow me from place to place get a different designator.

It's all good if you can differentiate at a glance! I like the Last Name, or last name Initial, different venue initials is a great additional tip. I've given my regulars ALL CAPS so I can notice them first in the singers list. Will eventually list by venue. Even though my groupies follow me around, like I'm sure happens to all of you that play in small communities and they don't have to drive ( Gas $$$ ) too far to follow your show around. Lets see Letty, Letti, Lettie, Leti, Leticia, Letish... then there are those that sign up with their nicknames (ie) "Sexy Mexy".... Ha!:e:w:g

Thank you for your input on this, but as a practical matter lets say you make a play list in club 'A" then club "B", then C, D, E, F and so on that list would get very time comsuming after a while to find that specific name and then code as per you're example ( Not Knocking It ) I just want to make a point.

Now what I'm using is the playList bring up a new playList cleanSlate
and start populating that list with singers request and your own song list for that club you can easily get 60 to 75 songs in one night 4hr show & more on 5hr's.

Now you play five locations X 60 Min = 300 Lines of information that has to be sorted out by your computer and your eyes ( By the end of the night you cauld have a hard-eyes crash ).

Now when your able to orginize that one location by that 4hr to 5hr show that = to 60 to 75 Max of information for your computer and your eyes to sort out and find.

Question which one is better?

I start with a clean list for each show and populate it as I go. Don't really see the difference. I use the singers DB to speed things up. When you type tom, all the toms drop down ,pick the correct one and your done.
I always do 60 plus songs a night. It never been a problem.:)

Me too, works quite well. Populate as you go and assign the real regulars who don't mind their songs too.

My wife assigns (populates) half her list as she watches who attends at the beginning, and adds quickly from there. Again, let's keep this simple as it is now.
