My suggestion is to Back Up everything, if you haven't already (database, playlist files, logs). Then set a "Restore Date" from within System Tools. Install the new version, test it out & if you're not comfortable enough to use it at your next show, then simply "Restore" your computer to the time before installing the new version.

That's what I plan to do!!! :) It is a little more complicated than that, but it can be done.

I have an extra laptop with 3.321 on it, works flawlessly, when 4.0 comes out it will be on that. Then when I feel good about it, which I'm sure I will the rest will get the upgrade.

I run videos (slide show pics) off a camera card reader that also has a USB port, I have two USB sticks with 8GB each plenty of room for pics, or videos. I have a dedicated TV monitor 46" that I run my slide show from. Soon it will be time for all analog TVs to be in tag sales and that is a boon for this type of thing. The 46" I've got ran me a small sum of 35$ at a rental shop switching over to digital. Some of the newer DVD players have USB and camera card ports. Course if you do this often the newer flat screens have all of the above built in.

I'm so excited about this! Answer to my prayers in the first place is the hoster program. I'm so excited about being able to save the singers' lists! Will save a ton of time and space! Great job MTU!

This is under serious consideration.

We'd have to embed a 3.400 (3.321a redone to run with 4.00 RegCode registration) in the Installation program along with the 4.00 version. That way, you could have both and switch between them.

No promises yet, but it is under consideration. :c

Well said Skybird74 and SO true!!! If you don't have at least 1GB RAM, forget it on Vista. Personally I'd have 2GB minimum, but then I have no intentions of using Vista this year. I'm solid with XP and it works great.

For those of you who are thinking maybe you should go back to XP from Vista, I'd recommend it, and you better do it ASAP. Microsoft will REMOVE XP retail packages from the market June 18th.... you have 8 days from now to get it. :e

That's one reason we're working so hard to get Hoster behaving on Vista. What a bear... never in my 40 years as a product developer have I or my engineers ever had to deal with such a mess! :e :r :m

We hope Beta 35 that went out 30 minutes ago for testing will solve the Vista problems. Thirty-five beta versions!!!!!!!!!! Never before have we had that much testing on any development, and our testers are STILL NOT in seeing the same results. We take each report and nail the problem. We made some major breakthroughs today. Keep your fingers crossed!!! :g :g :g

keep up the hard work admin !

we appreciate it !

gotrich June 10th, 2008 10:56 PM

just keeps getting better

I wish there was a way we could show our appreciation for all the hard work they do. I know we already pay for the product and to me that is about all I can do.( I am not doing near as many shows as before for vasrious reason that I hope to correct soon...) But everytime I think wow this cant get any better...im like wow they can do that?

GREAT JOB to ALL OF YOU at MTU...Thanks for all you do!!!!

WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO RUN 2 DIFFERENT VERSIONS AT THE SAME TIME?????

ADMIN - Are you really "recommending" replacing Vista with XP? First of all, my new laptop came with Vista pre-installed. Plus it would be an extra cost, not counting all the hours in time. Do you really think this is necessary?????

Beavis June 11th, 2008 06:33 AM

they would run both versions incase 4.0 was having major problems on their system, they could instantly revert to 3.321 to keep the show rolling !

LINSPIRE would be the way to go. It's put out by LINEX and was originally marketed as LINDOWS. It's a LINEX based os that runs WINDOWS based programs.

Here's the history on why the name got changed. Poor, poor Microsoft sued Lindows for copywrite infringement and ended up paying Lindows $24mil:g :g

I run tow versions in same computer. Back the older version (estable) in other location. If new version fail. Return old estable version to original Hoster directory.

new release date?

any idea on new date?

For those who want to know... last Monday we stopped trying to get Hoster 4.00 to work correctly with XP and Vista. What works for XP, fails with Vista! We commented out the "Vista patches", and our Beta Testers are now able to play KMA files correctly in XP.

We are now on Beta 39, scheduled for Wednesday evening. It handles all the weird problems some Karaoke producers have created over the decades, that Hoster 3.321 and prior handles correctly. We couldn't upgrade our rewritten code until the lyrics sweep worked. :c

Current target is to release Hoster 4.00 for XP on Monday, June 23rd or Tuesday the 24th.

For those who want to know, as soon as 4.00 is released, we will work on version 4.01 to run on BOTH Vista and XP. We have learned much about how Vista really works over the past 10 months, so we hope this will happen quickly.

FYI... Hoster 4.00 Beta 38 contains Hoster 3.40 also, which is Hoster 3.321a upgraded to run with 4.00 Registration Codes. If you find something wrong in 4.00, you can drop back and run your shows with 3.400 until we release a fix. We want everyone to upgrade to 4.00.

Hoster 4.00 has a major security upgrade. Some of you know MTU has worked hard over the years to make our security invisible to you. However, the worst problem we hadn't overcome is when your show computer dies and MTU must intervene to allow you to install on a third computer.

In 4.00 you will be able to remove Hoster from one of your 2 computers, and install it on another WITHOUT MTU HELP. In addition, you will be able to install 4.00 on 3 computers to replace loosing one to a failed computer that it can't be removed from. Initial testing shows this is working perfectly. :)

Skybird, Vista is here to stay. We have to accept that fact, and spend much longer than ever before to make applications work on Vista.

Is MTU happy? NO.

Is XP more stable than Vista RIGHT NOW, YES.

Will Vista be stable within 12 months? I DON'T THINK SO.

What do I recommend? You must make your own business decision. Vista will continue to have problems running programs for some time. We'll do our professional best to make Hoster "behave" on Vista.

Microsoft is again forcing Computer Makers to install Vista ONLY in 2 more days. Last time they tried this, computer sales dropped to ZERO. No one wanted Vista then. Can they pull it off this time? Wait 2 weeks and we'll all know. If XP resurfaces again, Microsoft failed again to control the Earth's personal computer users. :r

Personally, I hope they fail and reverse this poor decision.

SP3 Problems?

Has the Hoster 4.0 worked out well with Windows XP SP3? Since there has been a lot of new security patches with SP3, as well as some other updates.
I haven't experienced any problems with Hoster 3.321 and SP3.

ddouglass June 16th, 2008 04:56 PM

Have not had any problems with the betas using XP SP3. I was a fraid they were going to try to upgrade XP to include some of the Vista controls but they didn't so XP is running fine with all MTU software..

We are testing on SP2 and SP3 both, and Hoster 4.00 and Hoster 3.400 (3.321a) work fine.
