I can give you a very basic theory behind what we have done in Vogone 2.0 to help you understand.

You adjust frequency controls (low and high - hearing the change while you adjust the controls) to isolate the vocals in the song. This is done regardless of their pan position. Then you take that frequency band you have defined and adjust other controls to remove those frequencies in the particular pan location. It is rare that background vocals are at the same pan position, so I would believe they would remain after a main vocal removal pass.

You can run multiple passes by saving the first processed pass to the hard drive and opening that file as the input file for a second pass. In the second pass, you can reduce (if not remove) the echoes of the vocals, or the background vocals. I have had very little actual time using 2.0 yet, so I can't tell you the effectiveness of a second pass yet. In theory, it can be as potent as the first pass.

There may be some residual vocal left after the first pass. On the songs we have tested, some it removed, others it reduced significantly. Given it works on any vocal (male, female, even both) at any pan location, it is a very powerful tool.

We currently expect to have a first beta test version out to our client testers next week. They will test it on a much wider variety of songs than we have at MTU.
