Is direct x8.0 needed?

Now that DirectX8.0 is available, is it a good idea to install it? I've got 7.0 and still occasionally get a "set display mode" error.

Any other suggestions?

Yes. I recommend that everyone use DirectX 8.0 since it is available. You can download it from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=27741

This may or may not fix that problem. We just released a new beta test version, that has more error checking in the Play tab. This new version should help with this problem.
