Here is the way to convert LD to CDG........

1. Record your audio into a .wav file on your hard drive using a sound card
2. Edit any silence at the start and end
3. Run MTU's Karaoke Pro
4. Type in the lyrics text on each line (you may want to run the LD and stop it to read the lyrics)
5. Import the recorded/edited music .wav file
6. Place the lyrics to the music (read the manual for this)
7. Edit any mistakes to your satisfaction
8. Export your new Karaoke song as a .CDG file
9. Run Microstudio
10. In the Custom Assembly Tab, in the [b[Add Track[/b] section, click the From Disc option and locate your .cdg song
11. Add any other songs to this Assembly list before writing it to a CDG Karaoke disc
12. Put a blank CDR disc in the CDR drive you have selected
13. Click the Write CD button

Voila! You have your LD song on a CDG disc with the lyrics highlighting in sync to the music. Yes, without the background video, but you now have your song to sing on CDG.

Comment:

The original Pioneer Laser Discs had some Great Instrumental Arrangements that were not used in their CDG version.

This is one way to keep the original arrangements.

A good example is "Mack the Knife", excellent on Laser Disc, (probably best arrangement of this song from any company) but
reallly bad on their CDG version.

My feeling about the video lost in remastering as a cdg is that the video takes away from the song. I remember renting and watching several LD Karaoke discs and wishing that the video would go away!! Sure maybe you want your audience to think of a Oh I don't know... A Bikini Photo Shoot while your'e singing a love song, but I don't want that kind of nonsense! I hate vcd and dvd karaoke except as a possible means to get an otherwise ungettable song for cdg mastering.

exitos!! :)

What am I missing here? How can you convert an LD to CDG? How do you inter face the LD player to microstudio etc? If this is possible I would appreciate any details.

Thanks

Walt

Waltr, did you read the top post of this thread? If there is terminology that makes no sense to you then speak up but it is all there. Basically get the song "off" the Laser Disk as a wave file. (no video-music only) KHPRO and Microstudio can take it from there.

Good Luck.

Hello WaltR,
Go to www.audiotoolsdirect.com they list all sorts of programmes for converting, LDs, vinyl, tape, VCD and DVD. to wav., wma. or mp3.
They all have the same basic layout.
1. Connect your equipment for playing those various types of music to your sound card.
You will need an audio cable with TWO stereo jacks for your machine and ONE into the soundcard line in.
2. Install a programme to do the converting, most sound cards these days usually come with one.
3. Transfer your converted wav. files to KHPro.
4. Add your lyrics.
And as everyone seems to speak French these days... Voila!!
Microsoft XP unfortunately will only convert into WMA.
Some of the programmes from the link above are freeware, but most come with FREE trial periods, get one that doesn't have restrictions on what you can import.
There are also tutorials on doing most of the everyday convesions on this site.
Regards from acoss the pond.
